Well not so strictly speaking however to some degree that is true – Wahoo have recently released a couple of brand-new indoor trainers; the Kickr Smart Trainer V6 and the Kickr Bike Smart Bike which are packed full of new features and the main one is that it now comes with Wi-Fi!

Starting off with the Kickr Smart Trainer, its new features include Wi-Fi connectivity for faster and more stable data transfer, an ERG Easy Ramp which helps you get back into the action and a brand-new odometer which tracks your total mileage.

In addition to its new features the Kickr Smart Trainer offers the realism that you’d find on the road itself with its professional-grade high inertia 16lb flywheel and axis feet combine which provides riders with and ultra-realistic ride feel. The realism doesn’t just stop at the flywheel, in addition to this, the trainer also has customisable cushioned feet which respond to tempo and body position changes which mimics the side-to-side motion experience when riding outdoors. Don’t be scared to pump out those watts though, its professional grade steel construction ensures the Kickr stays in place while you crank out those miles.

Looking back at its main feature – the Wi-Fi, the new Kickr offers a robust 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection, up to 3 Bluetooth Connections, a direct connect port and ANT+/ANT+FE-C compatibility, KICKR Smart Trainers pair to most devices and applications so you have the most control over your training and ride data. Due to its stable connectivity, when it’s connected to your smartphone, tablet, computer or GPS bike computer, the Kickr automatically sets and adjusts your resistance based on the software or route.

Out of the box it comes with an AC Power Adapter, Kickr AXIS Feet, quick release skewers, a few spacers for cassettes and brake calipers and comes fitted with an 11-speed cassette, which if needed can be changed to a 12 speed. Just check out the video on the Wahoo site on how to swap it over!

Moving on over to the Kickr Bike Smart Bike, the indoor trainer offers unprecedented innovations such as integrated grade changes, customisable gearing, and simulated shifting to create the most powerful, personalised, and realistic indoor cycling and training experience.

It comes with pretty much all the additions that the Kickr Smart Trainer came with such as its realistic ride feel and its seamless Wi-Fi connectivity, however, this has a few more little features which makes this indoor bike trainer a class above the rest. With integrated tilt, this indoor smart bike simulates grade changes in real-time by not only providing changes in resistance, but also physically raising and lowering the smart bike to match ascents up to 20% and descents as steep as -15%. It also has a five-point adjustable fit which allows you to adjust the fit of your smart bike to match your outdoor bike’s geometry across 5 points – stack, reach, setback, saddle height, and frame height.

These machines do pack a fair amount of “oomf” and if you are looking to keep yourself fit over these upcoming cold months, the two new Kickrs are definitely a one to look out for!

Although you could always hop on a marlin with a Wi-Fi dongle and it’s pretty much the same thing…
