Amflow TL Carbon | The SUV E-Bike Built to Do More

Power for more than the commute.

The Avinox M2 drive system in the Amflow TL Carbon can produce up to 125Nm of maximum torque and 1100W peak output, while retaining a 250W rated output for the UK and European e-bike market. That additional torque starts to make a lot of sense once an SUV e-bike is carrying a rider, panniers and everything needed for a few days away.

For context, the Giant Stormguard E+ is rated at 85Nm, the Bosch Performance Line CX fitted to the Haibike Adventr 8.5 is listed at 85Nm, and the Specialized Turbo Tero X 6.0 uses a 90Nm motor. Different drive systems deliver their power differently, so torque alone doesn't decide which bike rides best, but the Amflow certainly has considerably more maximum assistance available when the hill gets steep or the bike gets heavy.

Optional 1280Wh Battery Capacity

For when the adventure gets bigger.

An 800Wh removable battery comes as standard on the Amflow TL Carbon, putting it straight into serious long-distance e-bike territory. Amflow quotes up to 106 miles under its controlled Eco-mode test, although real-world range will naturally vary with rider weight, luggage, terrain, temperature and assistance level.

The clever part is what happens when 800Wh isn't enough. Add the optional 480Wh secondary battery and total capacity rises to 1280Wh. The main battery can also be removed and swapped, giving riders much more flexibility when planning multi-day trips. The Haibike and Giant both start with 800Wh batteries, while the Turbo Tero X 6.0 uses a 710Wh battery, but Amflow's ability to expand to 1280Wh gives it a particularly strong specification for loaded trekking and very long days away from a charger.

200kg carrying capacity

Built to carry proper luggage.

Calling something an SUV doesn't mean much if you can't actually load it up. The Amflow TL supports approximately 200kg of total system weight, including the bike, rider and luggage. Its standard rear rack is rated for 27kg, while the optional front rack can carry another 20kg. The rear rack also uses the MIK HD interface and the bike can be configured to pull a compatible trailer.

Those are substantial figures within this category. Specialized rates the Tero X rear rack at 20kg with another 10kg available through its optional front rack, while Giant's Stormguard rear rack is rated to 20kg. Haibike quotes a 150kg maximum loadable weight for the Adventr 8.5. For riders thinking beyond a small commuting bag and towards panniers, camping kit or longer-distance travel, the TL's carrying capacity is a very convincing part of the package.

Power in no time.

Battery capacity is only half the story on an adventure bike. Eventually you've got to put the electricity back in.

Using the Avinox 508W charger, Amflow states that its 800Wh battery can charge from 0–80% in 1 hour 36 minutes and 0–100% in approximately 2 hours 25 minutes. That makes a café stop, long lunch or overnight stop considerably more useful when you're travelling over several days.

As an example of the difference, Bosch quotes approximately 6.9 hours for a full charge of its PowerTube 800 with the 4A charger used with the Bosch smart system. The exact charging setup varies between competing bikes, but Amflow's high-output charging system is one of the TL's most useful advantages for riders actually planning to travel with it.

Full Carbon

The TL is built around a full-carbon frame, rather than the aluminium construction used by the Stormguard E+, Tero X and Adventr 8.5. In its stripped off-road configuration, Amflow quotes a weight from 22.6kg, while the fully equipped standard version comes in at around 25.5kg depending on frame size.

More importantly, the frame hasn't simply been designed around carrying luggage. Remove the racks, mudguards and kickstand and Amflow states that the TL meets ASTM Category 3 requirements, allowing it to be used on rough roads and trails requiring greater technical skill. Put the touring equipment back on and you've got mudguards, lighting and luggage capacity ready for the next trip.

120mm/105mm Suspension

Enough trail bike without going too far.

The TL uses 120mm of front travel and 105mm at the rear, with suspension developed alongside FOX. That's enough movement to deal with roots, rocks, broken forest roads and more demanding trails, while still keeping the bike efficient and controlled when loaded with luggage. Both wheels can also be configured around either 27.5-inch or 29-inch formats depending on the intended setup.

It isn't actually the longest-travel bike in this group — and that is worth pointing out. The Specialized Tero X offers 130/120mm, while the Haibike Adventr 8.5 goes further again with 140/130mm. If outright suspension travel is your only priority, the Haibike wins that particular number. The Amflow's strength is the balance: significantly more trail capability than the Stormguard's 100mm setup, without pushing so far towards a conventional e-MTB that the trekking side of the bike becomes secondary.
